Summary: Find out how to file a citizen complaint with the UCSD Police Department.
UCSD Police Department staff members are expected to uphold the mission of the University while legally and properly discharging their duties. If you perceive misconduct on the part of Police Department employees, please report it immediately.
You can file a citizen complaint against a UCSD Police Department employee in person or by telephone, letter, or e-mail. Complaints can be filed at any time, day or night.
When Police Department employees perform their duties in an exemplary way, please let us know so they can be rewarded for good public service.
The UCSD Police Department promptly and thoroughly investigates all citizen complaints, including anonymous complaints. This practice:- Preserves the morale and integrity of the department and its personnel
- Fosters public trust and confidence in the department and its personnel
- Ensures that corrective or remedial action is taken when appropriate

Determine if you have a citizen complaint to file. |
- A citizen complaint is a grievance that a citizen believes the Police Department should be aware of so a proper investigation can take place.

File the complaint. |
- To file a complaint by telephone, call (858) 534-4357 and ask to speak with a supervisor.
- To file a complaint by e-mail, send a message to Ask-a-Cop.
- To file a complaint by U.S. or campus mail, address the complaint as follows:

- To file a complaint in person:
- Go to the UCSD Police Department, located at Campus Services Complex - Building B, and ask to speak with a supervisor.
OR
- Fill out a complaint form, available in the Police Department lobby, and turn it in at the front counter.
